Probably the most famous American sportsperson is Carl Lewis. He is popular for his world record in running and his world record in long jump. He was born in Birmingham. Carl Lewis started his carrier early, at the age of 13 he started to participate in long jump events. He also performed in sprinting events because he had the capability if high sprinting speeds. Carl received many awards for his carrier but probably the most important is the James E. Sullivan Award in 1981 for the best athlete. In 1983 he was also awarded with the World Championship. His mark was winning, and he succeeded. He won in the 100 m, at the long jump and the 4x100m relay. Undisputable he was the champion in the year 1984 because the succeeded to win four titles that included the 200 m race and set a new world record at the Los Angeles Olympics. Later Lewis joined music and in 1987 he was part of the band "Break it up", but his carrier in music didn't go very well. Today he lives in Los Angeles and he is an actor.
Another famous American athlete is Marion Louis Jones. He was born in 1974 in Los Angeles. Jones won five medals at the Summer Olympics in Australia (2000) but unfortunately they were removed because she later admitted that she took some drugs for performance-enhancing. After a long trial, she was sentenced to jail for six months. Marion Louis began her sentence in 2008.
